Homeowner desired a Traditional Style kitchen that would stand the test of time. This needed to be created on a tight budget — which came in under $40,000! Cabinet refacing is actually more of a skill than replacing cabinets with new boxes. By mixing refacing with new units that met the needs of increased space, the kitchen was created within the homeowner's budget. This was achieved by using a hybrid: refacing the existing wall cabinets with laminate and replacing the doors and drawers with maintenance-free material. The Statesman beaded edge in Stone (color) met the desired aesthetic of the homeowner. New built-in pieces include the pantry with glass fronts; an island, and a new cabinet to house their state-of-the-art wall oven. Cambria countertops in Brittanicca complete design.

Challenges in the project included installing a pantry over a radiator. Heat will delaminate refaced boxes. The new unit was elevated providing enough space between the radiator for heat to escape. This included four legs to ensure proper ventilation on four sides. Glass fronts add interior lighting; this solution increases interest instead of hiding the 100-yer-old heating unit.
